2022 Spring Bronco 680 Team Tryouts

Welcome

680 Bronco Team Tryouts

680 Player Evaluations

Hello OBA Families!

OBA is excited to offer another year of participation in the 680 Diablo League for our most advanced players. The 680 League is a competitive baseball league with teams from primarily the East Bay 680 corridor. Playing "680" is a significant step up in parent and player commitment, as well as on-field competition. More details on the League below, but first some important information on evaluations and tryouts for OBA's 680 Teams.

Tryouts for OBA's Spring 2022 Mustang (10U) and Bronco (11U and 12U) 680 League teams will be held over the weekends of Oct 9th and Oct 16th for eligible players. OBA will sponsor one team in each of the 10U, 11U and 12U divisions of 680. Only age eligible players are allowed to participate on the 680 teams. There are no exceptions. Age constraints are as follows-

Eligible Birthdates:

  • Mustang 10U - May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2012
  • Bronco 11U - May 1, 2010 to April 30, 2011
  • Bronco 12U - May 1, 2009 to April 30, 2010

Please make every effort to attend the scheduled age group session below.  OBA has attempted to arrange tryouts around other conflicts including OBA Fall Ball, MOL and soccer tournaments. In case of injury or absence, contact the appropriate commissioner as soon as possible.

Attendance at evaluations should be considered mandatory to make a 680 team. A makeup date is not currently scheduled.

Selection Criteria

Team selections are conducted by the OBA Coaching Staff. Our Coaches are former high school and college players that have coached either 680 or Pony Premier OBA teams in prior years. They will be evaluating players on baseball skills as well as hustle, focus and attitude. Previous selection to prior OBA or other 680 Teams does not guarantee placement on future 680 teams.

680 League Details

The 680 League season generally follows the same time frame as the OBA season. Practices will start in late January with games beginning the last weekend of February.

Games are scheduled in 3-game weekend series (e.g 2 games Saturday, and a single game on Sunday) with the other East Bay teams, e.g. Martinez, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Vallejo and Fremont. Scheduling typically results in games EVERY weekend with the exception of Spring Break, comprising a season of 18-21 games.

A League playoff is held at the end of May, either Memorial Day or the weekend before. All teams of the 680 league have a requirement that players play in 85% of their team games to be eligible for the playoffs. All players on an OBA 680 team are expected to attend 90% of the team's twice per week practices. We ask that if you participate in 680, baseball is your child's primary sport in Spring.

680 Teams will be led by our paid Coaching Staff during the season. As a result, fees per player are considerably higher than OBA house team fees. Per player 680 fees are expected to range from $1,500 to $1,750 per player.

Parents are welcome to register your player at the scheduled time, exit and return at the end of tryouts for pickup. Allow the players and coaches to interact without encouragement or comment from beyond the field. In almost every case, players perform at a higher level without the "pressure" of parental presence.

We look forward to seeing your players over the next few weeks.

Sincerely,

OBA Board of Directors
